My name is Sophie, and I’m a 33-year-old woman living with stage 2 Lipedema in Manchester, UK. Throughout my teenage and adult years, I constantly questioned why my legs never changed in size despite every diet, workout plan, and lifestyle adjustment I tried. As I entered my late twenties, I not only struggled with the appearance of my legs but also the daily heaviness, tenderness, and pain that gradually made everyday life more difficult. After years of uncertainty, I finally received an official Lipedema diagnosis in the UK in late 2022, followed by a second confirmation in Spain in early 2023.
In October 2023, I underwent WAL (Water-Assisted Liposuction) on my lower legs, which became a turning point in understanding and managing the condition. My own experience of searching for reliable information, navigating conflicting advice, and trying to make informed decisions inspired me to create Lipedema and Me. This website documents my personal journey, detailed research, and practical insights intended to support women who suspect they may have Lipedema, who have recently been diagnosed, or who are considering treatment options.
While this site is based on lived experience, many of the informational articles are reviewed or fact-checked with input from medical professionals familiar with Lipedema, so that the guidance shared here is as accurate, balanced, and responsible as possible. My goal is to provide trustworthy, easy-to-understand information on Lipedema symptoms, diagnosis, conservative management, lifestyle adjustments, nutritional approaches, and surgical experiences, which are all written from the perspective of someone who has gone through it firsthand.
